Stop Harping on School, Build the Relationship

When every conversation becomes a check-in about missing work or school performance, it can erode trust and connection. Kids may shut down, and the relationship starts to revolve around stress rather than support.

Try this:
Before you bring up school again, pause and ask yourself: What am I worried about? Do I need to ask this right now? Will this question bring us closer, or am I trying to ease my own anxiety?
Sometimes, the most supportive thing you can do is let it go, for now, and choose connection instead.
A gentle reminder:
You’re not just raising a student—you’re building a lifelong relationship. That matters more than any assignment.
Your voice matters. Comment your thoughts, share the post with your community, and reach out if you’re ready to take the next step by scheduling a therapy appointment.
